New int’l freight pricing model to take effect Jan. 1, 2025

Starting January 1, 2025, the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Association (FIATA) will introduce a simplified, more accessible pricing model for the digital negotiable FIATA Multimodal Transport Bill of Lading (eFBL).

FIATA said this initiative reflects its commitment to promoting accessible and inclusive digitalization across the logistics sector and aligns with global trends toward a more efficient and technology-driven future.

The pricing at issuance is Swiss Franc (CHF) 0.50 (PHP33.26) per eFBL document will be charged to all FIATA members, regardless of the market.

An additional fee of Swiss Franc (CHF 2.00) (PHP133) for each amendment to the digital record will be charged. This fee covers the administrative cost of replacing the original record secured by blockchain technology.

With this updated pricing model, FIATA is looking to encourage wider adoption of digital tools and lower the barriers to digitalization.

By reducing costs, FIATA aims to make the eFBL more accessible and appealing to freight forwarders, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises. This initiative empowers them to leverage digital documentation to enhance operational efficiency, expedite handling, maintain data ownership, and achieve cost savings.

The adoption of the eFBL supports FIATA’s long-term goal of accelerating digital transformation within the logistics industry.

Transitioning from paper-based processes to digital documentation offers significant benefits, including enhanced operational efficiency, reduced delays, lower risks of fraud and document tampering, faster and more secure trade processes, and improved supply chain collaboration.

By fostering digital adoption and promoting interoperability between stakeholders, FIATA helps its members strengthen their competitiveness and contribute to global sustainability efforts, including reduced paper consumption.

The introduction of the new eFBL pricing model is a step further in FIATA’s efforts to build a stronger, more resilient logistics network.

By offering affordable, innovative solutions, FIATA supports its members to navigate the challenges of a digital economy while positioning themselves for future opportunities. This initiative highlights FIATA’s dedication to serving the logistics community, promoting digitalization, and ensuring its members are equipped to succeed in an ever-changing global marketplace.

FIATA has urged all FIATA Association Members to sign the FIATA Licensing Agreement, granting their members access to the eFBL.

Twenty-five FIATA association members had already empowered their local freight forwarders to embrace digitalization. (Edu Lopez)
