Within the top 10 airlines in Southeast Asia, Cebu Pacific Air continues to increase by over 660,000 seats at the fastest rate of 38 percent in January 2025 vs January 2024, which reflects an increase of almost 20 percent in its fleet last year, according to the OAG report.
Having increased capacity by 31% vs last year, AirAsia is the region’s largest carrier with a 7% share of the market and 2.9 million seats.
Lion Air is the second largest, also with a 7% regional share of capacity and 2.8 million seats. However, the airline’s capacity has reduced by 9% vs last year.
AirAsia added the most seats, 691,800 seats, in January 2025 vs last year, as it approaches full reactivation of its fleet.
Cebu Pacific also increased capacity by over 660,000 seats, a 38% increase vs January 2024. This reflects an increase of almost 20% in its fleet in 2024.
Batik Air Malaysia almost doubled its capacity last year, having added 4 new Indonesian routes to its network in 2024.
OAG noted that the largest increase in international capacity was at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International Airport again this month, increasing by 407,000 seats, 16% vs January 2024.
International capacity also increased by 368,300 seats at Kuala Lumpur International and 335,700 seats at Singapore Changi vs last year.
Percentage-wise international capacity continued to increase significantly at Phu Quoc, increasing by 185.2% – 108,100 seats vs January 2024.
The top domestic route in Southeast Asia remains Hanoi (HAN) to Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) with 933,700 seats, an increase of 8% vs January 2024.
Jakarta (CGK) to Makassar (UPG) is the second busiest domestic route with 549,200 seats.
Five of the top 10 domestic routes in the region are in Indonesia, which has the largest population in the region.
Capacity continued to reduce most on the Jakarta to Medan Kuala Namu (CGK-KNO) versus last year, declining by 17%.
Domestic capacity increased by 15% on both Cebu (CEB) to Manila (MNL) and Da Nang (DAD) to Ho Chi Minh City (SGN).
OAG also noted that Indonesia remains the largest Southeast Asia market with 11.1m seats, representing 26% of the market.
Thailand is the next largest market in Southeast Asia, with 8.4 million seats, and 2.69 million fewer seats than in Indonesia.
