Clark International Airport Corp. (CIAC) President Jojit Alcazar announced that the newly constructed Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower at Clark International Airport represents a significant advancement in air traffic management, enhancing both safety and operational efficiency.
“We expect the tower to be fully operational by the second quarter of this year. With air traffic volume projected to increase, ensuring the safety of aircraft and passengers remains our top priority,” Alcazar stated.
The state-of-the-art 18-story ATC tower, built by MSV Construction and Supplies in partnership with Northern Builders Construction Corp., offers panoramic views of the airfield. This design addresses the existing line-of-sight issue on the north-end approach of the runway while optimizing air traffic control operations for maximum visibility and efficiency.
Alcazar emphasized that the country’s airports continually grapple with challenges such as airspace congestion, equipment malfunctions, adverse weather conditions, and the complexities of modern air traffic management. Given the continued rise in global air travel—already reaching or exceeding pre-pandemic levels in some regions—Clark’s new ATC tower is designed to meet these evolving demands.
“The surge in travel volume presents additional challenges for ATC operations at Clark. That’s why implementing an advanced system capable of swiftly identifying and mitigating these issues is crucial,” he added.
The tower will integrate cutting-edge communication technology used in world-class airports, aligning with international safety and standardization protocols. Last month, engineers and specialists from CIAC and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) underwent overseas training to master the latest traffic communication, navigation, and surveillance systems.
Beyond enhancing flight operations, the new ATC tower plays a pivotal role in supporting CIAC’s Seven Flagship Projects—ambitious developments requiring extensive logistics and cargo movement. These include a National Food Hub, a World Convention and Events Center, and a Multi-Modal Mobility Hub, all aimed at positioning Clark as a premier aviation and business hub.
With this latest infrastructure upgrade, Clark International Airport is set to strengthen its role as a key player in the country’s aviation sector, ensuring safer skies and more efficient air traffic management.
