DHL group expands EV logistics solutions in Asia Pacific with new centers of excellence

DHL Group, the world’s leading logistics provider, is expanding its electric vehicle (EV) logistics and supply chain solutions across the Asia Pacific region by opening three new Electric Vehicle Centers of Excellence (EV COEs) in 2024.

These centers build on DHL’s suite of tailored solutions, which cover everything from capital equipment for new EV factories to inbound manufacturing (I2M), finished vehicle logistics, and aftermarket services.

“As the global EV market grows, Asia is expected to account for 63% of the 115 million new EVs expected to be sold over the next five years,” said Fathi Tlatli, Global Auto-Mobility Sector President at DHL Customer Solutions and Innovation. “To meet this rising demand, a robust and compliant logistics supply chain ecosystem is essential. Our new EV Centers of Excellence in Shanghai, Singapore, and Indonesia will serve as hubs of expertise and resources for the EV sector in Asia Pacific.”

A Network of Expertise for EV Logistics in Asia

An EV COE is a hub of knowledge and capability, highlighting DHL’s logistics expertise and commitment to advancing its EV solutions. These centers offer a wide range of modular, integrated, end-to-end logistics solutions across the EV supply chain.

The three new EV COEs in Shanghai, Singapore, and Indonesia are part of a global network, joining existing centers in 10 countries, including Italy, the United Kingdom, Mexico, and the UAE.

“When people think of EVs, they often focus on the finished vehicle,” said Audrey Gerard, Vice President of Auto-Mobility, Asia Pacific, DHL Customer Solutions and Innovation. “However, the entire ecosystem behind the EV value chain is just as important. That’s where DHL Group stands out—we provide customized solutions across every segment, leveraging our expertise and extensive global network.”

Expanding the EV COE Network

In addition to the three new centers in Asia, DHL plans to establish more EV COEs in other key markets with established EV footprints and expertise, including India, Japan, Malaysia, and Thailand.

With its Strategy 2030, DHL Group prioritizes the EV sector as a key growth area. As the market matures, there will be an increasing need to manage the repurposing and recycling of end-of-life EV parts and batteries.

“This growing segment will require complex logistics support,” added Tlatli. “We are exploring ways to address these needs in Asia, utilizing solutions already in place across our European and Middle Eastern networks, as well as leveraging our market-leading cross-border road freight network in ASEAN.”
