Ocean Network Express (ONE), a leading Singapore-based liner shipping company, has solidified its commitment to fostering future maritime talent by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Singapore Maritime Foundation (SMF). This collaboration is designed to enhance the talent pipeline for the maritime industry.
As part of the MoU, ONE will sponsor at least two MaritimeONE scholarships (including applicable overseas exchange programs) and two MaritimeONE internships annually from 2025 to 2027. This initiative deepens ONE’s partnership with SMF and reinforces its ongoing support for talent development in the maritime sector. The scholarships and internships will be administered and promoted by SMF, with both organizations jointly selecting the candidates. The collaboration aligns with SMF’s MaritimeONE programme, which aims to connect young individuals with the maritime industry through immersive learning and hands-on experiences.
In addition to these new initiatives, ONE’s continued collaboration with SMF includes organizing company visits for students as part of the MaritimeONE Company Connect, participating as a keynote speaker and exhibitor at the annual Maritime Youth Forum, and supporting the MaritimeONE VIP Pass program. The 2024 VIP Pass winners had the exclusive opportunity to board one of ONE’s signature magenta vessels and enjoy lunch with the company’s CEO.
Ms. Tan Beng Tee, Executive Director of the Singapore Maritime Foundation, expressed her appreciation for ONE’s unwavering support of SMF’s talent development initiatives. “The signing of this MoU marks a significant milestone in our partnership and demonstrates our shared commitment to cultivating the next generation of maritime professionals. As the industry evolves with technological advancements and a focus on greener practices, it is crucial to develop a workforce equipped with the skills needed to thrive in this changing landscape,” she said.
Ms. Tay Ai Lin, Senior Vice President of Global Human Resources and ONE Academy at Ocean Network Express, emphasized the company’s dedication to nurturing future leaders in the maritime sector. “At ONE, we are committed to developing talent that will drive the future of the maritime industry. This MoU reinforces our goal of creating opportunities for the next generation to turn challenges into possibilities. We look forward to seeing these students grow into leaders who will guide the industry through increasingly complex global waters,” she stated.
Through this strengthened partnership, ONE and SMF are working together to ensure that the maritime industry continues to attract, nurture, and empower young talent in preparation for the future.
