Malacanang says transport infrastructure projects to ease commuting in Metro, provinces

Commuters are set to benefit from a series of ongoing and upcoming government transport infrastructure projects aimed at addressing the long-standing issues of inadequate public transportation and severe traffic congestion, particularly in Metro Manila and its surrounding provinces.

During a press briefing at Malacañang on March 14, 2025, Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro highlighted several transport initiatives designed to improve connectivity, enhance commuter safety, and drive economic growth.

Castro pointed to recently inaugurated projects, such as the SM North EDSA Concourse and Busway Station in Quezon City, as key steps toward providing safe, accessible, reliable, and affordable mass transit options.

She emphasized that the Department of Transportation (DOTr) had taken special care in designing the station to accommodate senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and pregnant women, featuring elevators and ramps for their convenience.

“With the new station, we aim to improve the commuting experience and make it more comfortable, allowing people to spend more time with their families and loved ones,” Castro said.

In addition to the SM North EDSA Concourse, Castro also cited other major projects that involve public-private partnerships, such as the Metro Manila Subway Project and the North-South Commuter Railway Project, which are expected to enhance mobility in the region.

She also mentioned two transport initiatives in collaboration between the DOTr and SM Prime Holdings: the Ortigas Bus Station and ASEANA Bus Station, which are expected to further ease congestion and improve commuter access. Donations from the private sector have significantly contributed to several of these transport infrastructure projects.

Castro also outlined other major upcoming projects, including the Cebu Bus Transit and the Davao Public Transport Modernization, which are set for completion in the near future.

In his commitment to accelerating progress, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has instructed DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon to expedite the completion of these critical infrastructure projects.

The President emphasized that infrastructure development goes beyond just building roads and railways; it is about creating a safe, reliable, and future-ready transportation system for all Filipinos.
