PHLPost to partner with logistics providers for last mile delivery service

A major partnership between the state-owned Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) and private logistics providers is underway, aiming to provide cost efficient last mile delivery service to far-flung areas in the country by tapping into the vast resources of PHLPost.

Marc Laurente, chief of staff of Postmaster General and PHL CEO Luis D. Carlos, revealed the upcoming partnership following an initiative by the Supply Chain and Logistics Group of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to reduce the cost of logistics services in the country. DTI Undersecretary Mary Jean Pacheco has been designated by DTI Secretary Cristina A. Roque as the supervising undersecretary of the newly created Supply Chain and Logistics Group.

During the initial meeting, PHLPost presented the priority project of Postmaster General Carlos, to more than 25 logistics companies. Among the services introduced were the Postal Trinity Service, for a more efficient system, and the Domestic Express Mail Service (DEMS), offering lower rates to meet the demand for affordable delivery options for businesses.

Under the project, PHLPost will open its huge resources to the private logistics companies. “We are opening our fleet for them to tap our resources especially in far flung areas because according to them they are losing on those areas, so it is cost efficient for them to leverage on us,” Laurente said.

“We have our fleet of trucks and people,” he said. These resources are located in all its offices nationwide that can be further maximized.

Being the government’s logistics arm, PHLPost currently provides other government agencies with logistical support. It has also expanded to servicing business to business and business to customer.

Pacheco has spearheaded this collaboration between PHLPost and logistics companies to support the rapidly growing e-commerce sector by offering more efficient, affordable, and accessible logistics solutions to businesses and consumers.

It aims to provide affordable delivery options that meet the increasing demand from e-commerce businesses while enhancing the efficiency and coverage of postal services nationwide. Additionally, PHLPost facilitates better communication and cooperation among logistics stakeholders to drive continuous improvement.
