Marcos orders heightened monitoring during Holy Week

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has directed the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and relevant agencies to intensify monitoring efforts to ensure the safety and convenience of commuters during the Holy Week.

This was announced by Presidential Communications Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro in a briefing at Malacañang on Tuesday.

Castro explained that the President had also instructed law enforcement agencies to monitor the security situation throughout the Holy Week period closely.

“There is a directive for the DOTr to enhance monitoring as our fellow citizens travel back to their provinces,” said Castro.

“The President’s order extends not only to the DOTr but also to all attached agencies, ensuring the safety and comfort of all passengers traveling to their hometowns or taking vacations,” she added.

Castro also revealed that strict inspections would be enforced at terminals, ports, and airports to avoid delays in transportation leading up to Holy Week.

“We are aware that occasionally, despite our best efforts, incidents or crimes may still occur. The President’s directive is clear: we must stay vigilant,” Castro emphasized.

“Even though most people are on vacation, the government cannot afford to rest. Monitoring and assistance to our fellow Filipinos will continue,” she concluded.
