The Philippines registered an unemployment rate of 3.8 percent in February this year, an improvement from the 4.3 percent jobless rate in the first month of 2025.
Data from the Statistics Authority (PSA) said released on April 8, 2025 showed these unemployment rate translates t 1.94 million with no jobs in the second month of 2025.
The PSA also reported that the country’s employment rate in February was estimated at 96.2 percent, lower than the recorded employment rate in February 2024 at 96.5 percent. The employment rate in January 2025 was estimated at 95.7 percent.
This resulted in higher number of employed persons in February at 49.15 million compared to the 48.49 million Filipinos employed in the first month of the year and 48.95 million employed in February 2024.
The top five sub-sectors with the highest increase in employment in February 2025 were the following:accommodation and food service activities; fishing and aquaculture; public administration and defense; compulsory social security; construction; and other services.
In contrast, the following five sub-sectors posted the highest annual decreases in the number of employed persons: agriculture and forestry; administrative and support service activities; transportation and storage; wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles; and, professional, scientific and technical activities.
