Emperador Inc., the global spirits giant, remains optimistic about its future trajectory following a challenging 2024, announcing a strategic pivot across key segments and reaffirming its commitment to long-term premiumization.
Despite economic headwinds, Emperador reported revenues of PHP 61.6 billion in 2024, representing a 6.1% year-over-year decline, primarily due to softer consumer demand and tighter discretionary spending.
Brandy’s revenues fell by 9% to PHP 36.4 billion, while whisky saw a more modest decline of 1.6%, settling at PHP 25.3 billion. Gross profit declined by 11.2% to PHP 18.7 billion, and net profit dropped by 27.4%, reflecting both reduced revenues and continued investment in long-term brand value.
Brandy Outlook: Stronger 2025 Ahead
The company anticipates a rebound in 2025, especially in its brandy business. Emperador expects higher margins and stronger performance this year, driven by a two-fold strategy: a pivot toward the low-priced segment to meet evolving consumer needs, and a sustained push for premiumization across key markets.
“This dual approach enables us to cater to value-driven consumers while continuing to grow our footprint in the premium brandy space,” the company said in a statement.
Whisky Strategy: Navigating Global Trade Uncertainty
The whisky segment, though relatively stable in 2024, remains under scrutiny due to shifting global trade dynamics. Emperador is carefully monitoring new US trade policies and potential tariffs that could impact international whisky markets. The company remains agile and ready to respond to developments that may influence its export strategy and pricing structures.
Expansion into Premium Mezcal with Los Danzantes Acquisition
In a bold move to expand its premium spirits portfolio, Emperador, through its wholly owned subsidiary Casa Pedro Domecq, has acquired a majority stake in Los Danzantes, a distinguished name in the craft Mezcal category.
Based in Oaxaca, Mexico, Los Danzantes is renowned for its artisanal, traditional production methods and is the parent company of premium brands Los Danzantes and Alipus—both of which were ranked among the Top 10 ‘Bestselling’ and ‘Top Trending’ Mezcal brands by Drinks International in 2023.
“This acquisition strengthens our premium offerings and positions us at the heart of one of the fastest-growing global spirits categories,” Emperador stated. “Los Danzantes’ craftsmanship, heritage, and authenticity align with our vision of building world-class, culturally rich spirit brands.”
Looking Ahead
With a diversified approach to its brandy portfolio, cautious navigation of the whisky landscape, and a confident stride into the premium Mezcal space, Emperador is poised for a stronger 2025. The company remains committed to adapting to market realities while continuing to invest in innovation, quality, and global expansion.
