PCG steps up security nationwide for safe Holy Week travel

As the annual Holy Week exodus begins, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has intensified its security operations across ports and tourist hotspots nationwide to ensure the safety and comfort of travelers.

In a Malacañang press briefing on Tuesday, PCG Deputy Spokesperson Commander Michael John Encina announced that the agency has raised its alert level to “heightened alert” and mobilized over 17,000 personnel to conduct pre-departure inspections and patrols at resorts.

To further bolster its presence, the PCG has deployed Coast Guard Auxiliaries to Malasakit Help Desks and positioned K-9 units in key transport and recreational hubs.

“These extensive preparations are in place to ensure a safe and secure Holy Week for vacationers and tourists,” said Encina. He emphasized that the PCG is closely coordinating with local government units (LGUs), Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (DRRMOs), and coastal barangays to strengthen its security network.

Beach resorts and recreational areas are also undergoing thorough safety inspections to confirm the presence of authorized lifeguards, medical clinics, and first aid responders.

“Most importantly, we’re ramping up information dissemination. Coast Guard personnel are making the rounds at major beach areas and resorts to remind the public that assistance is readily available whenever needed,” Encina added.

The PCG’s heightened alert status is in effect from April 13 to April 20 to manage the expected surge in passenger traffic at seaports.

Travelers may reach out to the PCG through its official Facebook page or contact the Coast Guard Public Affairs Service at 0927-560-7729 for any concerns or inquiries regarding sea travel protocols during Holy Week.
