Energy Secretary Raphael P.M. Lotilla called on Meralco to deepen its commitment to public responsibility, urging the company to extend its impact far beyond the confines of its franchise.
Speaking at the Giga Summit 2025 on April 24, 2025, he emphasized the critical role of electricity in driving national development, the unique position Meralco holds in shaping the nation’s power landscape, and the delicate balance between market efficiency and public accountability.
“Be the very best you can be,” Secretary Lotilla challenged Meralco, highlighting the dual imperatives of ensuring energy security and maintaining affordability as key priorities for the nation.
The Secretary also reaffirmed the Department of Energy’s (DOE) commitment to fostering the growth of the Electric Vehicle (EV) industry, which he identified as a crucial part of the country’s future energy transition.
As of April 2025, the DOE has accredited 132 Electric Vehicle Charging Station (EVCS) providers, enhancing the availability of safe, reliable, and accessible charging infrastructure for electric vehicles.
Lotilla’s remarks reflect a call to action for both public and private stakeholders to collaborate more effectively in creating a sustainable and equitable energy future for the Philippines.
