DOTr Sec. Vince Dizon inspects MRT-3 operations, eyes free Wi-Fi for commuters

Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon led an inspection of MRT-3 operations on April 21, as the line resumed full service following its annual Holy Week maintenance.

Accompanied by Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Henry Aguda, Undersecretary for Railways Timothy John Batan, and MRT-3 General Manager Michael Capati, Secretary Dizon monitored passenger flow at North Avenue Station before riding the train to Santolan Station.

During the site visit, Secretaries Dizon and Aguda discussed the potential rollout of free Wi-Fi access across MRT-3, positioning it as a pilot project to improve digital connectivity in the country’s rail systems.

GM Capati expressed full support for the initiative, noting that it complements ongoing efforts to enhance the commuter experience. These include the extension of operating hours and the deployment of four-car train sets to boost passenger capacity.

MRT-3 resumed normal operations on April 21 after the successful completion of maintenance work on all its subsystems during the Holy Week break.
