Enhanced safety and smooth travel now a reality on key Agusan-Davao highway section

Motorists traversing the Agusan-Davao section of the Daang Maharlika in Barangay Kapatungan, Trento, Agusan del Sur, can now look forward to safer and smoother journeys following the completion of crucial preventive maintenance works. The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) spearheaded the project, a significant step in its ongoing commitment to upgrade the nation’s vital road network.

DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan highlighted the importance of the project, referencing a report from DPWH Region XIII Director Alex B. Ramos. The completed 4.80 lane-kilometer asphalt overlay is an integral part of broader widening and upgrading initiatives along the Pan-Philippine Highway, more commonly known as the Maharlika Highway. This crucial artery serves as the Philippines’ primary transport backbone, seamlessly connecting the islands of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

The maintenance work involved the application of a high-quality asphalt overlay and the installation of clear pavement markings. These improvements are designed to significantly enhance road safety and ensure the long-term durability of this vital section of the highway.

“This project goes beyond mere repair and upgrades,” stated Director Ramos. “It directly supports President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s vision of a Bagong Pilipinas, where well-maintained road networks empower our citizens with greater mobility, ultimately improving their quality of life and fostering increased economic activity throughout the nation.”

The asphalt overlay project was efficiently implemented by the DPWH Regional Office XIII and was funded through the 2024 DPWH Regular Infrastructure Program, with a total investment of P44.3 million. This completed work underscores the DPWH’s proactive approach to infrastructure maintenance, ensuring safer and more efficient travel for all road users.
