Central Luzon’s emerging destinations shine with World Travel Awards nominations

The Philippine strategy to promote its emerging tourist destinations is proving successful, as three captivating sites in Central Luzon have earned nominations at the esteemed World Travel Awards, Malacañang announced on Monday.

Speaking at a Malacañang press briefing on Monday, Presidential Communications Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro highlighted that these nominations are a clear indication of the National Tourism Development Plan 2023–2028’s positive impact.

“These nominations are proof that the direction of the National Tourism Development Plan 2023–2028 is effective, aiming to develop not only established destinations but also new locations that showcase the genuine beauty of the Philippines,” Castro stated.

The recent nominations of Aurora Province, the City of San Fernando in Pampanga, and the Clark Freeport Zone raise the Philippines’ total number of World Travel Awards (WTA) accolades to an impressive ten.

Castro emphasized that the country’s growing list of international recognitions underscores the strength of its enhanced tourism efforts.

“These awards demonstrate the strength and scope of our tourism, spanning nature, culture, and world-class events,” Castro affirmed.

Castro lauded the success of these emerging destinations in effectively presenting Philippine culture, natural wonders, and top-tier event management capabilities.

Aurora Province, famous for its untouched beaches and thriving eco-tourism spots, is nominated for Asia’s Leading Regional Nature Destination.

San Fernando, Pampanga—widely known as the Christmas Capital of the Philippines—is vying for the title of Asia’s Leading Cultural City Destination.

Furthermore, the Clark Freeport Zone, a burgeoning business hub in Central Luzon, has secured a nomination as Asia’s Leading Meetings and Conference Destination.

Since its inception in 1993, the WTA has aimed to acknowledge, reward, and celebrate excellence within all vital segments of the travel, tourism, and hospitality sectors.

The WTA implements a comprehensive awards program designed to recognize the industry’s most significant sectors and diverse offerings.

“Truly, in every coastline, festival, and meeting, the beauty of the Philippines is being recognized worldwide,” Castro concluded.
