DOTr orders closure of illegal bus terminal, addresses ride-hailing appeal

Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon has ordered the immediate closure of an unauthorized bus terminal operated by Mega Bus in Malibay, Pasay City. The closure follows an inspection during Holy Week, where the terminal was found to be significantly non-compliant with minimum operational requirements.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) had previously summoned Mega Bus following Secretary Dizon’s inspection. Deficiencies noted included the absence of essential facilities such as functional restrooms, communication systems, priority lanes for senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs), a comprehensive land transport security plan, adequate passenger resting areas with proper ventilation and lighting, and online ticketing and dispatching capabilities. This action aligns with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to ensure safe and convenient travel for the public.

Meanwhile, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) has announced a temporary stay on the LTFRB’s order to reduce the rider fleet of ride-hailing app MoveIt. Secretary Dizon confirmed that MoveIt has filed a motion for reconsideration, which is currently under review. “The status quo will be maintained, and the LTFRB’s decision will not be implemented while MoveIt’s motion is being considered. No changes will be made until a resolution is reached,” Secretary Dizon stated.

Furthermore, Secretary Dizon has directed the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to suspend the driver’s license of motorcycle vlogger Yanna following a recent road rage incident in Zambales. He emphasized the importance of discipline, accountability, and responsible behavior for all road users, particularly public figures and influencers. The issuance of a Show Cause Order underscores the DOTr’s zero-tolerance policy towards actions that endanger others or incite road confrontations.

“We will continue to collaborate closely with our attached agencies to foster a culture of safety and courtesy among all road users,” Secretary Dizon affirmed.
