Transportation Secretary and Immigration Commissioner conduct surprise inspection of NAIA

Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon and Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado spearheaded a surprise early morning inspection of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3, underscoring a concerted effort to enhance airport operations and elevate passenger services.

The unannounced inspection, conducted in tandem with key officials from the Department of Transportation (DOTr), BI, and the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), exemplifies the administration’s comprehensive approach to resolving persistent challenges at the nation’s primary gateway.

Echoing President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to improve the travel experience for both Filipinos and international visitors, Commissioner Viado affirmed the BI’s commitment to supporting the national government’s initiatives to modernize the airport and ensure a comfortable, convenient, and secure environment for all travelers.

“We are resolute in demonstrating tangible improvements at our airports. Our observations today were positive, and we will maintain our focus on alleviating bottlenecks, upgrading our infrastructure, and addressing the evolving needs of passengers,” Commissioner Viado stated.

During the inspection, Commissioner Viado highlighted the full staffing of immigration counters and the seamless flow of BI operations.

“Our immigration officers have consistently provided efficient frontline service. Despite existing challenges, we have continued to refine our systems, and the President’s support for modernization has been instrumental in strengthening our presence and operational capabilities at NAIA,” Commissioner Viado emphasized.

He also expressed gratitude to Secretary Dizon and the DOTr team for their ongoing collaboration and partnership in facilitating the smooth transit of individuals through the country’s international points of entry.

“Our focus aligns with the DOTr’s—we are both dedicated to transformation. The traveling public is entitled to a safe, secure, and seamless airport experience,” he added.

In a recent move to bolster frontline services, the BI deployed an additional 19 immigration officers to complete the assigned personnel roster at NAIA.
