A total of 787,284 passengers took advantage of the four-day Libreng Sakay (Free Ride) initiative launched by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in celebration of National Labor Day. Running from April 30 to May 3, the program aimed to honor Filipino workers by easing their daily commute.
The LRT Line 2 System recorded strong daily ridership throughout the program:

April 30 (Tuesday): 208,430 passengers

May 1 (Wednesday – Labor Day): 156,490 passengers

May 2 (Thursday): 234,888 passengers — the highest single-day total, setting a new post-pandemic ridership record

May 3 (Friday): 187,476 passengers
LRTA Administrator Hernando Cabrera lauded the program’s success, stating: “The ridership numbers highlight the public’s appreciation for the Libreng Sakay program and underscore its significance as a Labor Day gift to Filipino workers. It not only offered essential transport relief but also demonstrated our system’s ability to handle increased demand efficiently.”
Cabrera added that the agency remains committed to developing more initiatives aimed at enhancing accessibility and affordability in public transportation.
