Universal Robina Corporation (URC), one of the Philippines’ largest food and beverage companies, reported robust first-quarter results for the fiscal year 2025, posting consolidated sales of Php 45.3 billion for the three months ending March 31, 2025. This marks a 7% increase versus the same period last year, with the company showing strong, volume-led growth across most of its business divisions.
Operating income stood at Php 5.5 billion, a 1% rise year-on-year, in line with expectations. Core net income grew by 4% to Php 4.1 billion, supported by lower financing costs. Meanwhile, net income from continuing operations slightly dipped by 2% to Php 4.3 billion, due to higher foreign exchange gains in the same period last year.
URC’s Branded Consumer Foods (BCF) business delivered strong performance, with Q1 sales reaching Php 29.7 billion, up 6% from last year. BCF Philippines contributed Php 20.1 billion, growing 4% despite a high base in 2024, and recorded double-digit volume growth in Ready-to-Drink Beverages, Snacks, and Confectionery. International operations surged 10% to Php 9.6 billion, led by Vietnam’s double-digit gains and steady growth in Malaysia and Indonesia, demonstrating continued momentum despite challenges in regional export markets.
The Agro-Industrial and Commodities (AIC) division also grew sales by 8% to Php 15.6 billion, driven by strong performance in the sugar and flour businesses. This growth helped offset the impact of weaker animal feed sales, which were affected by a decline in hog populations in the Philippines.
“We are starting the year on a high note, delivering impressive volume growth across our key branded businesses in the first quarter of 2025,” said URC President and CEO Irwin Lee. “As overall consumer confidence and sentiment improve, we look forward to accelerating our forward momentum and continuously improving URC’s performance. We will continue to create and sell trusted products that people love, with the best innovations at the best prices, while staying true to our mission: to delight our customers and consumers with good food choices.”
URC’s first quarter results underscore its strategic focus on innovation, operational excellence, and expanding market presence both locally and internationally.
