DOTr orders nationwide improvement of land transportation terminals

The Department of Transportation (DOTr), through the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), has issued Board Resolution No. 101 Series of 2025, mandating all bus and terminal operators across the nation to significantly upgrade their land transportation terminals within the next 60 days.

This decisive action follows a strict directive from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., emphasizing the paramount importance of passenger safety and convenience in all public transportation. Transportation Secretary Dizon underscored the President’s mandate, warning that non-compliant operators will face severe consequences, including potential suspension of operations and even terminal closures.

“If they don’t comply within 60 days, they could be suspended. And if they don’t comply, their terminals could be closed,” Secretary Dizon stated firmly while addressing representatives of transportation firms.

The LTFRB has issued cease and desist orders against two illegal bus terminals operating in Pasay City, consistent with Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to provide passengers with accessible and convenient transport terminals equipped with decent facilities.

The LTFRB said that the terminals operated by Adomar Motor Vehicle Repairs and Maintenance Services and H.M. Ramirez Transport are not compliant with minimum PUV terminal standards.

The operators were also directed to secure valid permits from the LTFRB to operate their terminals.

This directive comes on the heels of heightened scrutiny on the roadworthiness and safety practices of bus operators. Earlier, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) conducted a thorough inspection of all 270 buses belonging to Solid North Bus in a motor vehicle inspection center in Zambales.

This action was prompted by a tragic fatal road crash involving a Solid North Bus on SCTEX during Labor Day, which resulted in the loss of 10 lives and caused injuries to others. The comprehensive inspection aims to ensure the roadworthiness of the entire Solid North Bus fleet.

The DOTr and LTFRB’s latest resolution signals a strong commitment to ensuring higher standards of safety and convenience for the commuting public. Bus and terminal operators are urged to take immediate action to implement necessary improvements within the stipulated timeframe to avoid potential sanctions.
