The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has swiftly acted on a recent traffic accident along EDSA Quezon Avenue, issuing a 90-day suspension of the involved bus driver’s professional driver’s license. This decisive action comes in direct response to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s stringent directive to prioritize the safety and comfort of all commuters and road users.
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has commended the LTO for its prompt issuance of a show cause order (SCO) and the subsequent suspension following the road crash. The incident resulted in injuries to four individuals and damage to two vehicles, underscoring the critical need for responsible driving practices on public thoroughfares.
Secretary Vince Dizon of the DOTr issued a strong warning to all Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) drivers and operators, emphasizing that non-compliance with the President’s mandate on commuter safety will be met with severe penalties.
“If it is necessary to suspend all licenses of drivers and franchises of operators who are negligent on the road at the expense of our commuters and road users, we will do it,” stated Secretary Dizon. “We will keep on doing this until everyone learns and believes that the safety of the public is paramount.”
This swift action by the LTO and the strong statement from the DOTr signal a firm commitment to upholding road safety and accountability within the public transportation sector. The government is sending a clear message that negligence and disregard for the well-being of commuters will not be tolerated.
