MREIT, Inc. (MREIT), the real estate investment trust sponsored by pioneering township developer Megaworld Corporation, today announced the appointment of Kevin L. Tan as the company’s new Chairman of the Board, effective June 1, 2025.
Mr. Tan has been instrumental in MREIT’s success since its launch in 2021, having served as its President and Chief Executive Officer. Under his leadership, MREIT has significantly expanded its portfolio to 482,000 square meters of gross leasable area across 24 prime office properties. These properties are strategically located within five of Megaworld’s premier townships: Eastwood City, McKinley Hill, McKinley West, Iloilo Business Park, and Davao Park District.
MREIT has also demonstrated strong financial performance under Mr. Tan’s guidance, achieving a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12% in distributable income from full year 2022 figures and a remarkable 43% growth from half-year 2021 figures, positioning it as a top performer in its class.
Concurrently with his new role at MREIT, Mr. Tan also holds the position of President and CEO of Alliance Global Group, Inc. (AGI), the diversified holding company established by his father, Dr. Andrew L. Tan. AGI’s diverse portfolio includes prominent companies such as Megaworld, Emperador Inc., Travellers International Hotel Group, Inc. (operator of Newport World Resorts), Golden Arches Development Corporation (McDonald’s Philippines), and Infracorp Development. Within Megaworld, MREIT’s sponsor, Mr. Tan serves as an Executive Director. He is also the Chairman of Travellers International and a Director in other AGI subsidiaries, including Emperador Inc. and Global-Estate Resorts, Inc. (GERI).
In a concurrent move to strengthen its leadership team, MREIT’s Board of Directors, under the guidance of Mr. Tan, has appointed Atty. Paul Michael “Mike” Batac as the new President and Chief Executive Officer of MREIT, also effective June 1, 2025.
Atty. Batac brings a decade of experience from Megaworld, where he most recently served as the Chief Operating Officer. Prior to this, he led Megaworld’s Estate Management Group and subsequently headed the Corporate Ventures and Partnership division. He also concurrently holds the crucial role of Megaworld’s Sustainability Head, driving the company’s various sustainable development initiatives nationwide.
Before joining Megaworld, Atty. Batac held significant positions as the Director for Facilities Management at Ateneo de Manila University and Director for Estate Management at Ayala Land, Inc. He holds a degree in Architecture from the University of Santo Tomas, a Diploma in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of the Philippines-Diliman, and a Diploma in Strata and Rental Property Management from the University of British Columbia.
The appointments of Mr. Tan as Chairman and Atty. Batac as President and CEO mark a new chapter for MREIT, poised for continued growth and success in the Philippine REIT market.
