Bureau of Immigration reaffirms commitment to transparency and procedures

The Bureau of Immigration (BI)underscored its unwavering commitment to transparency, accountability, and the provision of high-quality public service. In a statement released by Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado, the Bureau announced a comprehensive review of its immigration procedures. This directive aims to ensure ongoing adherence to internal policies and the highest standards of integrity within the agency.

Commissioner Viado’s instruction for a procedural review comes as part of the BI’s proactive and continuous efforts to maintain public trust and uphold professionalism across all its operations. The move follows the recent circulation of an online post alleging irregularities in visa processing. The Bureau confirms it is treating these claims seriously and is addressing them through the appropriate internal channels.

While Commissioner Viado stated that no evidence of irregularities in the specific visa processing mentioned in the online post has been discovered at this time, he emphasized the critical importance of proactively safeguarding the fairness, efficiency, and impartiality of all Bureau services.

“We are particularly focused on ensuring the efficiency of our tourist visa processing,” Commissioner Viado stated. “While our online application system has been implemented to streamline processes, it is equally important that in-person processing remains accessible and convenient for the public.”

Commissioner Viado further highlighted the consistent performance of the BI’s tourist visa section, noting its adherence to the processing timelines mandated by the Anti-Red Tape Authority. He also pointed out the section’s ISO certification since 2018, along with the regular internal and external audits conducted to guarantee quality and procedural compliance.

Reiterating his administration’s dedication to open governance and transparency, Commissioner Viado welcomed constructive feedback aimed at enhancing the system and safeguarding the integrity of the BI’s personnel.

“Our objective is continuous improvement,” Commissioner Viado affirmed. “This thorough review will allow us to verify that our processes are functioning as intended. Should any substantiated violations be uncovered, we will take decisive action without delay.”

Commissioner Viado also expressed his appreciation for the dedication of the Bureau’s frontline personnel and staff, acknowledging that the vast majority remain committed to providing honest and efficient service. “We trust that unverified allegations will not overshadow the significant reforms and positive changes we have diligently implemented,” he concluded.
