DOTr-LTO issues show cause orders following Quezon and Cavite road crashes

In swift response to recent road crash incidents in Quezon and Cavite, the Department of Transportation (DOTr), through the Land Transportation Office (LTO), has issued show cause orders to the owners of the involved vehicles. This decisive action underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing road safety for all motorists and passengers, aligning with the President’s recent directives on the matter.

The LTO has summoned the owner of the truck involved in the tragic multiple-vehicle collision that occurred in Atimonan, Quezon, on May 16th. Initial reports indicate that the truck driver lost control of the vehicle while traveling along Maharlika Highway, leading to a collision with two other vehicles. Tragically, the truck driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Separately, the LTO has also summoned the owner and the driver of the sedan that struck pedestrians and other vehicles in Noveleta, Cavite. The female driver involved in the Cavite incident claimed to have lost consciousness while operating the vehicle. As a consequence of the incident and pending further investigation, her driver’s license has been suspended for 90 days.

Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon has reiterated a firm stance, emphasizing that the DOTr will relentlessly pursue drivers and operators who jeopardize public safety. He stated that the Department will continue to automatically suspend the licenses of those involved in incidents that compromise passenger safety while thorough investigations are conducted.

These immediate actions by the DOTr and LTO demonstrate a strong commitment to accountability and road safety, sending a clear message that negligence and actions leading to road crashes will be met with swift and decisive measures.
