Pres. Marcos Jr. welcomes Mongolian Foreign Minister, signals stronger diplomatic ties

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. today expressed his keen interest in strengthening diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Mongolia as he received Mongolian Foreign Minister Battsetseg Batmunkh at Malacañan Palace.

“I hope that your visit will spark more interactions between our two countries,” President Marcos Jr. told Foreign Minister Batmunkh during the courtesy call.

The visit holds significant historical weight as it marks the first official visit by a Mongolian Foreign Minister to the Philippines in 41 years. The last such visit occurred in 1984 when then Mongolian Foreign Minister TS Gombosuren visited during the administration of former President Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr.

The Philippines and Mongolia established diplomatic relations on October 11, 1973, and this year commemorates the 52nd anniversary of these enduring ties.

Currently, approximately 500 Filipinos reside in Mongolia, contributing to the country’s workforce in various sectors including education, international organizations, and the clergy.

Foreign Minister Batmunkh’s visit is anticipated to pave the way for increased collaboration and engagement between the two nations across various fields. President Marcos Jr.’s remarks underscore the Philippines’ commitment to fostering stronger bonds with Mongolia and exploring opportunities for mutual growth and understanding.
