St. Francis Shangri-La Place transitions to 100% renewable energy

The St. Francis Shangri-La Place, a premier residential development by Shang Properties and one of the tallest towers in Ortigas, has made a landmark move in environmental responsibility by transitioning the energy use in its common areas to 100% renewable energy. This milestone is achieved through a strategic partnership with ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions (ACEN RES), the retail electricity arm of the Ayala group’s ACEN Corporation.

This initiative marks a significant step in the building’s commitment to environmental sustainability, reducing its carbon footprint while contributing to the Philippines’ broader clean energy goals. ACEN RES will supply The St. Francis Shangri-La Place with electricity sourced from ACEN’s diverse portfolio of solar, wind, and geothermal power plants.

“We are proud to partner with ACEN RES in this important initiative,” said Joseph Salting, Head of Property Management at Shang Property Management Services. “This transition to renewable energy for our common areas aligns with our commitment to providing our residents with a sustainable and environmentally responsible living environment.”

ACEN RES continues to lead the way in providing renewable energy solutions to forward-thinking developments and businesses across the country.

“ACEN RES is dedicated to empowering organizations to make the switch to renewable energy to help them achieve their business and sustainability aspirations,” said Atty. John Henry Liquete, ACEN Vice President for Legal. “We commend The St. Francis Shangri-La Place for setting an example for others in embracing renewable energy and contributing to the nation’s cleaner energy future.”

This move is enabled by the Department of Energy’s Green Energy Option Program (GEOP), which allows electricity consumers to select renewable energy sources through licensed providers like ACEN RES.

By making this switch, The St. Francis Shangri-La Place is expected to eliminate approximately 2,200 tons of CO2 emissions annually—equivalent to the emissions of a gasoline-powered car traveling nearly 9 million kilometers, or the amount of carbon absorbed by over 101,000 fully grown trees each year.

This transition reinforces the growing trend of sustainable urban living and highlights the role of innovative partnerships in supporting the Philippines’ renewable energy transition.

Developed by Shang Properties, The St. Francis Shangri-La Place is a landmark residential development in the heart of Ortigas’ Shang Central. It offers residents access to a fully integrated lifestyle community that includes the EDSA Shangri-La Hotel, the Chi Spa, and the Shangri-La Plaza Mall, with its array of high-end retail, dining, and entertainment options.
