REDC gears up for Q3 2025 launch of P4 billion Pulanai hydropower plant

Repower Energy Development Corp. (REDC) is on track to significantly bolster Mindanao’s power infrastructure with the upcoming launch of its Php 4 billion, 15MW Pulanai Hydropower Plant in Bukidnon. The company announced that the state-of-the-art facility is scheduled to commence operations in the third quarter of 2025, a remarkable three months ahead of its initial timeline.

Once operational, the Pulanai Hydropower Plant is projected to double the existing generating capacity in the region, marking a substantial leap towards energy independence and grid stability in Bukidnon. This development underscores REDC’s commitment to expanding its renewable energy footprint across the Philippines.

The Pulanai plant will be REDC’s first venture into Mindanao, adding to its existing portfolio of eight operational hydropower plants in the Luzon region. These Luzon-based facilities currently contribute a combined capacity of 17,354 MW to the grid. REDC also has several other promising projects in its pipeline, currently progressing through various stages of development.

This expansion news comes on the heels of a strong financial performance for REDC. The company reported a robust 31.8% year-on-year increase in net income for the first quarter of 2025, reaching Php 92.5 million compared to Php 70.1 million in the same period last year. This significant growth was primarily fueled by a 6.1% rise in electricity sales, coupled with a substantial 52.66% decrease in operating expenses. The impressive reduction in operating costs is attributed to the company’s successful operational streamlining initiatives and a decreased requirement for plant repairs due to minimal natural disruptions.

The accelerated launch of the Pulanai Hydropower Plant underscores its dedication to providing clean and reliable energy to communities across the Philippines. The project not only doubles Bukidnon’s power generation capacity but also reflects the company’s relentless pursuit of operational excellence and efficiency, as evidenced by its strong first-quarter results.

The increase in electricity generation in the first quarter is a testament to the REDC team’s unwavering commitment to maintaining optimal operational efficiency and maximizing the performance of its existing power plants. With the imminent launch of the Pulanai plant, REDC is poised for further growth and a strengthened contribution to the Philippines’ renewable energy landscape.
