The Department of Tourism (DOT) and Mastercard announced a landmark strategic partnership aimed at digitally transforming the Philippine tourism experience. Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco and Mastercard Southeast Asia Marketing Senior Vice President Dheeraj Raina welcomed the collaboration, which is set to usher in a new era of innovation and convenience for travelers.
Secretary Frasco emphasized the alignment of Mastercard’s strategic directions with the Marcos Administration’s tourism agenda, which prioritizes value-based metrics, enhanced infrastructure, and a digital-first approach to travel. “This partnership is a testament to our commitment to modernize and elevate the Philippine tourism sector,” said Secretary Frasco. “By integrating digital solutions and leveraging data, we can create more seamless, personalized, and fulfilling experiences for both domestic and international visitors.”
Discussions during the meeting focused on potential synergies, particularly connecting Mastercard’s global analytics capabilities with the DOT’s ongoing digitalization initiatives. Key areas of collaboration identified include optimizing tourism spending, enhancing country branding through the “Love the Philippines” campaign, data-driven marketing, and the development of smart tourism features. The partnership will also explore the creation of online shopping platforms, robust cybersecurity measures, and comprehensive system integration to ensure a secure and efficient digital ecosystem for tourism.
Secretary Frasco also underscored the critical role of domestic tourism in sustaining the industry’s momentum. Mastercard proposed initiatives to support this significant segment, recognizing its vital contribution to the nation’s economic recovery and growth.

Representing the DOT were Undersecretaries Shahlimar Hofer Tamano, Verna Buensuceso, and Ferdinand Jumapao; Assistant Secretary Judilyn Quiachon; and Directors Paulo Benito Tugbang and Zeny Pallugna.
