DPWH completes P142-M Digos-Makar road project in Sarangani

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has announced the successful completion of a significant road widening project on the Digos-Makar Road in the Municipality of Malungon, Sarangani Province. The ₱142-million undertaking, funded through the 2024 General Appropriations Act (GAA), was finished in April 2025.

The project involved the construction of two additional carriageways, each 3.80 meters wide, on both sides of a 4.38-kilometer stretch of the existing road. Beyond the new lanes, the comprehensive development included the construction of a new bridge, enhanced drainage systems, and crucial slope protection structures in vulnerable areas of the highway.

According to DPWH Regional XII Director Basir M. Ibrahim, the initiative aims to establish a robust road network capable of accommodating higher traffic volumes. This, in turn, is expected to significantly reduce delivery costs for agricultural products and improve the overall mobility of people and services in the region.

Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan emphasized that the project directly supports President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s “Build Better More” Program. With farming as the primary livelihood for many Malungon residents, the improved infrastructure is anticipated to expand livelihood and employment opportunities, thereby addressing economic challenges in this vital rural area. The project was implemented by DPWH Regional Office 12.
