ERC Chairperson Dimalanta highlights long-term vision for renewable energy agenda

Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) Chairperson and CEO Atty. Monalisa C. Dimalanta emphasized the Philippines’ renewable energy (RE) agenda as a crucial long-term strategy aimed at significantly reducing dependence on imported fuel and fostering a more secure and inclusive power system.

Speaking at the Solar and Storage Live 2025 event at the SMX Convention Center, Chairperson Dimalanta articulated the profound significance of the RE agenda. “Ultimately, all these programs I have discussed (and more) are powering the Philippines’ RE agenda. It does not simply aim to tick boxes or achieve milestones for the sake of completing them. It is a blueprint to liberate our power system from high dependence on imported fuel. It is also a covenant to energy democracy that will empower our stakeholders and consumers to make better energy decisions,” she stated.

Chairperson Dimalanta highlighted three pivotal transformations currently influencing the energy sector: the Green Shift, the Network Shift, and the Source/Supply Shift. These shifts, she noted, are actively propelling the Philippines closer to achieving enhanced energy security, sustainability, and affordability.

She further underscored tangible indicators of progress within the sector. These include a remarkable 121% increase in net-metering registrations, the sustained expansion of the Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA) program, and a nearly 90% rise in participants under the Green Energy Option Program (GEOP) by the close of 2024. These figures, she asserted, demonstrate the concrete steps being taken towards a more robust and sustainable energy future for the Philippines.
