The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has tapped online shopping platform Shopee and leading last mile courier LBC Express to enhance the online market reach of Guimaras mangoes.
This initiative aims to onboard local mango sellers onto the Shopee platform. This move will streamline a reliable delivery system to empower the local farmers and modernize agricultural trade.
The DTI’s Supply Chain and Logistics Group, spearheaded by Undersecretary Mary Jean Pacheco, and the Regional Operations Group have been actively supporting and continue to empower aspiring mango sellers, with three already registered on Shopee and ten more currently undergoing onboarding.
Equipping them with knowledge for success in the digital marketplace, Shopee conducted a “Shopee 101” tutorial, guidance on account setup, product listing, and online selling essentials, with 13 attendees
To address the logistics challenge of delivering the products to the customers in optimal condition, the DTI-SCLG has facilitated the linkage between LBC Express and onboarded merchants, such as Guimaras Wonders Farm.
LBC will serve as the fulfillment provider for online orders and will integrate with Shopee. This partnership ensures a seamless and reliable delivery experience of the freshly produced product. In support of the Manggahan Festival, LBC’s Guimaras branch is offering exclusive shipping discounts and special rates, helping local sellers manage delivery costs while expanding their reach.
Building on this partnership, the Head of Shopee Philippines, Vincent Lee, shared, “We are happy to partner with DTI to help Guimaras mango sellers embrace the digital economy and reach more consumers across the Philippines. This initiative opens new opportunities for local agri-entrepreneurs and reflects Shopee’s ongoing commitment to helping Filipino micro, small, and medium enterprises thrive online.”
“We recognize the growing potential of e-commerce. With full support from President BBM, we are thankful to private sector partners like Shopee and LBC Express of their continued support to DTI initiatives. Our goal is to increase market access and reduce logistics and transport costs that will benefit both suppliers and consumers,” said DTI Secretary Cristina A. Roque. “By empowering the farmers and the sellers of our locally produced products will signify that the country is ready to enter the Bagong Pilipinas. ”
“This collaboration will enable Guimaras mangoes to be safely and efficiently delivered to customers nationwide, supporting the digital transformation of local agri-enterprises and enhancing consumer access to high-quality local produce,” the trade chief added.
