President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. arrived in Malaysia on Sunday to participate in the 46th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit, joining regional leaders to address key developments and advance shared goals for Southeast Asia.

The President’s aircraft landed at Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 5:41 p.m. local time, carrying members of the official Philippine delegation, including Trade Secretary Ma. Cristina Aldeguer-Roque, Communications Secretary Jay Ruiz, and Mindanao Development Authority Secretary Leo Tereso Magno.

President Marcos is set to engage with fellow ASEAN leaders on pressing regional and global issues, including maritime security, developments in the South China Sea, the situation in Myanmar, climate change, economic stability, and digital transformation.

A central focus of the President’s participation is the promotion of an ethical and responsible Artificial Intelligence (AI) framework for the region. He emphasized the need to build “a future-ready ASEAN that is not only competitive but also people-centered and sustainable.”

In addition to the main summit, President Marcos will chair the 16th Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) Summit and attend the 2nd ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit and the ASEAN-GCC-China Summit. He is also scheduled to hold several bilateral meetings and participate in a range of high-level engagements with fellow leaders.

This year’s ASEAN Summit is held under the theme “Inclusivity and Sustainability,” reflecting the region’s collective commitment to fostering resilience, equitable growth, and long-term progress.
