Pres. Marcos Jr. hails Metro Pacific fresh farms as a leap forward for agriculture

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. visited Metro Pacific Fresh Farms (MPFF) in San Rafael, Bulacan, the Philippines’ largest greenhouse facility, commending its innovative farming approach and significant potential to bolster national food security and sustainability.

Operated by Metro Pacific Agro Ventures (MPAV), a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC), the 3.5-hectare facility represents a cornerstone in the administration’s vision for a modernized and more efficient agricultural sector.

In an interview with the Presidential News Desk, MPAV President Jovy Hernandez highlighted the remarkable efficiency of the MPFF, stating it is “nine times more productive” than traditional farms. The facility’s primary goal is to provide consistently high-quality, affordable vegetables to Filipino consumers.

“This is a big boost to the President’s push to modernize agriculture,” Hernandez remarked, emphasizing President Marcos Jr.’s strong support for their initiatives. “We were very pleased that he told us that whatever we need for government support, he’s there to support us because he believes in what we’re doing.”

MPFF leverages cutting-edge Israeli technology to cultivate vegetables in a precisely controlled environment, utilizing a hydroponic farming method. This advanced technique drastically reduces the need for pesticides, leading to healthier crops and promoting healthier living among Filipinos. The facility boasts an impressive annual production capacity of up to 500 metric tons of fresh vegetables.

Beyond its current production, MPAV is actively engaging with local supermarkets for product distribution and is also exploring online sales channels.

Looking ahead, MPAV plans to expand its footprint by establishing more greenhouse facilities in key regions, including Palawan, Benguet, and Cavite. A core tenet of their mission is to actively share modern farming practices with Filipino farmers, aiming to significantly boost their productivity and knowledge.

Since its opening in March, MPFF has already made a tangible impact on the local community by creating 100 jobs for residents in Bulacan, contributing to economic development in the region.

The visit underscores the government’s commitment to fostering a more resilient and modern agricultural landscape, ensuring a sustainable food supply for all Filipinos.
