The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has announced the successful completion of a crucial 3.48-kilometer flood mitigation structure along the Bangoy Bridge section in Barangay San Roque, New Bataan, Davao de Oro. This significant infrastructure development is set to greatly enhance flood control and road safety in the region.
In a report to Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, DPWH Regional Office 11 Director Juby B. Cordon highlighted the strategic importance of the project, located along Kalamokan Creek leading to the Agusan River. “The completion of this project will significantly improve economic activities in New Bataan, enhancing the movement of goods and access to essential services by minimizing travel disruptions, and protecting communities against flooding that has been a longstanding problem in parts of Davao de Oro,” stated Director Cordon.
The previous frequent flooding in the area has historically disrupted access to the major highway, posing significant risks to residents and motorists. This new flood control measure is a direct intervention to address these long-standing challenges.
Director Cordon further emphasized that this improvement aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.’s vision of “Bagong Pilipinas” under the “Build Better More” program, underscoring the government’s commitment to resilient and robust infrastructure development.
The P144.74 million project, funded under the General Appropriations Act of 2024 and implemented by the DPWH Davao de Oro 2nd District Engineering Office, is divided into three sections. It incorporates reinforced concrete revetment, grouted riprap, and minor drainage systems in identified areas. These robust features are designed to ensure safety and maintain the structural integrity of the revetment wall, enabling it to withstand extreme weather conditions.
