Pres. Marcos Jr. appoints new officials, retains key Cabinet members

In a continued effort to enhance government efficiency and public service delivery, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has appointed three new senior officials and retained three key Cabinet members following an ongoing performance review of appointed officials in the executive branch.

Executive Secretary Lucas P. Bersamin announced the appointments, highlighting the President’s commitment to ensuring effective leadership across all levels of government. The new appointments include:

Darlene Marie Berberabe as Solicitor General, succeeding Menardo Guevarra.

Police Major General Nicolas Torre III as the new Chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), replacing retiring Police General Rommel Marbil. Marbil will retire on June 2, 2025.

Jose Ramon Aliling as the new Secretary of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD).

Additionally, President Marcos appointed Shirley Agrupis as the new Chairperson of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), succeeding Prospero De Vera III.

In his ongoing efforts to ensure continuity in key defense and justice roles, President Marcos retained the following Cabinet members:

  • Gilberto Teodoro as Secretary of the Department of National Defense (DND)
  • Jesus Crispin Remulla as Secretary of the Department of Justice (DOJ)
  • Juanito Victor ‘Jonvic’ Remulla as Secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)

The President emphasized that these appointments are part of a broader review of government performance and a continued commitment to enhancing public service.

“This ongoing review is not just about the top positions, but about the quality of service being delivered at every level of government,” said Executive Secretary Bersamin during a press briefing at Malacañang. “The people expect results, and the President has made it clear that he will not tolerate underperformance.”

As part of the review process, President Marcos has also called for courtesy resignations from heads of government-owned and controlled corporations (GOCCs) and other senior officials, with each resignation being carefully assessed based on performance standards. The President remains steadfast in his commitment to a government that works efficiently, delivers results, and meets the expectations of the Filipino people.

“This is a crucial step toward ensuring that the government remains focused, responsive, and capable of meeting the challenges ahead,” added Bersamin. “The President will continue to make the necessary changes to ensure that the government keeps moving forward.”

The recent appointments and the ongoing performance review signal President Marcos’ determination to foster a government that not only delivers results but also meets the high standards expected by the Filipino people.
