Emperador Inc. accelerates global sustainability push with smart technologies

Emperador Inc., a leading global spirits company, is strengthening its commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship by integrating smart technologies and renewable energy programs across its international operations, particularly in Spain, the United Kingdom, and the Philippines.

In Spain, Emperador’s subsidiary Grupo Emperador Spain (GES) is pioneering advanced, eco-friendly technologies in vineyard operations to achieve sustainable production. These include intelligent irrigation systems and humidity and salinity sensors that help optimize grape growth while significantly reducing water usage. GES is also deploying drones for efficient vineyard monitoring and implementing falconry as a natural pest control method to reduce chemical use. The company has also introduced electric forklifts to replace combustion-based equipment and installed solar panels to harness clean energy. In addition, enhanced biogas recovery is now in place during wastewater treatment processes.

In the United Kingdom, Emperador’s subsidiary Whyte & Mackay has implemented key renewable energy transitions. At the Jura Distillery, the company replaced its traditional boiler with a state-of-the-art biomass boiler, cutting carbon emissions by approximately 5,000 tons annually. Meanwhile, at the Invergordon Distillery in Scotland, operations have fully shifted to a 100% carbon-neutral energy supply, powered by renewable wood pellets. Emperador has also established a bioenergy center to process distillery co-products into biomethane gas, projected to offset around 20,900 tons of CO₂ equivalent by 2026.

“Our global sustainability strategy reflects a deep commitment to integrating environmental responsibility across our value chain,” said Winston Co, President and CEO of Emperador Inc. “We continue to pursue innovation-driven growth while aligning our operations to preserve natural resources and promote ecological care in the communities where we operate.”

In the Philippines, Emperador has made major strides in renewable energy adoption. In 2023, the company installed a 2-megawatt peak solar photovoltaic system at its glass plant, generating around 2.5 million kWh of clean energy annually and reducing carbon emissions by 1,929 metric tons of CO₂e. An additional 640-kilowatt peak solar facility is under development at one of its manufacturing plants, projected to generate over 800,000 kWh annually, cutting emissions by another 593.12 metric tons of CO₂e.

These sustainability efforts are aligned with the broader SustainAGIlity program of Emperador’s parent company, Alliance Global Group, Inc. (AGI). The program is designed to promote long-term value creation, responsible innovation, and sustainable growth, while addressing core environmental, social, and governance (ESG) priorities.

Through these multi-country initiatives, Emperador Inc. continues to set a benchmark for sustainability in the global spirits industry, blending tradition with technology for a more resilient and responsible future.
