President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has appointed Atty. Francis Edralin Lim as the new chairperson of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Executive Secretary Lucas P. Bersamin announced today during a briefing at Malacañang.
Atty. Lim will succeed incumbent SEC Chairman Emilio Aquino, whose seven-year term concludes on June 6.
Executive Secretary Bersamin expressed confidence that Atty. Lim’s leadership will significantly enhance investor confidence and foster greater transparency, innovation, and inclusive growth within the Philippine financial sector.
Bersamin lauded Atty. Lim is a distinguished figure within both the legal and financial communities, highlighting his extensive background in corporate and securities law. Atty. Lim’s impressive career includes serving as President and CEO of the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) from 2004 to 2010.
He is also a senior partner at Angara Abello Concepcion Regala & Cruz Law Offices (ACCRALAW), a prominent law firm in the Philippines, and a former trustee and president of the Shareholders Association of the Philippines (SharePHIL).
“He has contributed significantly to investor protection and market transparency through both his professional work and his academic involvement,” Bersamin stated, adding, “He brings to this office decades of experience in corporate law, governance, and capital market regulation.”
The SEC is the primary national regulatory body responsible for overseeing the corporate sector, capital market participants, and the securities and investment instruments market, while also safeguarding the interests of the investing public.
