The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), under the dynamic leadership of Commissioner Romeo D. Lumagui, Jr., announced a significant milestone in its revenue generation efforts, reporting a net collection of ₱ 1.111 trillion as of April 2025.
This impressive figure not only demonstrates the BIR’s robust performance but also surpasses its collection target for the period by a remarkable ₱ 7.045 billion.
The cumulative collection as of April 2025 represents a substantial 14. 50% increase, or ₱ 140. 140.695 billion, compared to tax collections recorded for the same period last year. This strong growth underscores the effectiveness of the BIR’s strategic initiatives and the improved compliance of taxpayers.
Furthermore, this early success positions the BIR well to achieve its annual goals. The ₱ 1.111 trillion collected already accounts for more than 35% of the Bureau’s ambitious Calendar Year (CY) 2025 collection target of ₱3. 232 trillion. This 2025 target is set 13.36% higher, or ₱ 380. 380.871 billion more than the actual collection for CY 2024, reflecting the BIR’s commitment to continuous improvement and higher revenue generation.
Commissioner Lumagui emphasized the factors contributing to this positive trend and the Bureau’s future outlook: “With the intensification of the Bureau’s tax enforcement activities, specifically on the campaign against sellers and buyers of fake receipts, and with the continuous streamlining and digitalization of the BIR’ s core services, we hope to encourage all non- compliant taxpayers to comply fully with the provisions and requirements of the tax laws so we can attain, and even surpass, our annual collection target this year.”
The BIR remains dedicated to its mandate of efficient and effective tax administration, ensuring vital financial resources for the nation’s development programs and services.
