MOL PH becomes one of world’s largest training providers for seafarers

The Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. Training Center (Phils.) Inc. (MOLTCP) has become one of the world’s largest providers of DNV-certified training programs for seafarers.

In a statement, the company said that MOLTCP now offers the largest number of training programs certified by DNV. Based in Norway, DNV is the world’s largest classification society, evaluating the safety and environmental performance of ships and offshore structures and certifying maritime training programs. Certification allows the company to demonstrate compliance with international standards for training quality and safety in providing the necessary skills and knowledge to participants in the training program.

The distinction followed after MOL’s LNG Carrier Standard Training Course was recognized for being compliant with the latest model course set by the London-based International Maritime Organization (IMO).

The Philippine training center is also the first certified maritime training institution in the country.

With six DNV-certified training programs, MOL’s Manila training center now stands along with MOL Maritime India, MOL’s base.

On June 3, 2025, MOLTC(P) celebrated its 20th anniversary of establishment and introduced its cutting-edge engine simulator and newly introduced LNG/chemical cargo handling simulator, which complies with the latest SIRE requirements (IMO 1.36 Model Course) and meets the competency standards required for seafarers aboard LNG carriers as stipulated by SIGTTO, leading to this latest certification.

MOL will support the ever-expanding LNG carrier business by continuing to strengthen its seafarer training infrastructure.

Using an engine simulator, MOL said it is committed to training seafarers, which is one of its sustainability challenges, and leads to the “contributes to the growth and development of people and communities.”

The group standardizes its training content worldwide to continue to support people’s day-to-day fundamentals through “safe” operations as a responsible leader in the social infrastructure business.

It strives to continuously develop competent seafarers who will support the world’s highest standards of safe operations, through the implementation of top-quality maritime training for seafarers of all nationalities.
