New NAIA Infra Corp (NNIC) confirmed a minor vehicular incident occurred on Friday night, June 6, 2025, at the Ninoy International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2 Arrival Area. A Toyota Hi-Ace Super Grandia, while maneuvering, made contact with the curb between Bays 13 and 14. The driver informed authorities he was attempting to avoid another vehicle. Crucially, no injuries were sustained and no property damage was reported as a result of the incident.
Airport security and police personnel responded promptly to the scene. Following a swift assessment, the vehicle was safely maneuvered away from the curb and escorted to the Airport Police Division (APD) for standard documentation.
NNIC clarified that the location where the incident occurred, specifically between Bays 13 and 14, does not currently feature bollards. This design is consistent with prevailing airport standards for areas not classified as high-traffic zones and which had not previously been identified as presenting significant safety or security risks. The existing bollards across NAIA were installed in 2019, before NNIC commenced operations in September 2024.
In light of this incident and, more significantly, a separate fatal incident at Terminal 1 last month involving a speeding vehicle, NNIC had already initiated a comprehensive audit of all bollard placements across every NAIA terminal. This audit has now been completed. NNIC is currently in the process of implementing its findings, which include ensuring the proper installation and secure anchoring of existing bollards, as well as strategically deploying new bollards in critical high-traffic and vulnerable areas. The company is also collaborating closely with airport authorities to continuously bolster overall airport safety and security protocols wherever necessary.
“The safety and security of everyone within NAIA’s premises remain our utmost priority,” stated an NNIC spokesperson. “While last Friday’s incident was minor and fortunately resulted in no harm, it underscores the importance of our proactive safety initiatives. We are fully committed to implementing the improvements identified in our bollard audit and working tirelessly with all stakeholders to maintain the highest standards of safety across the airport.”
