Philippines showcases cultural pride at Expo 2025 Osaka National Day Celebration

The Department of Tourism (DOT), led by Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco, proudly celebrated Philippine National Day at Expo 2025 Osaka with a vibrant showcase of Filipino culture, heritage, and innovation. The event served as a platform for strengthening bilateral ties and unveiling initiatives that will shape the future of Philippine tourism.

Addressing an international audience, Secretary Frasco emphasized the Philippines’ enduring cultural strength and forward-looking vision.

“Today, the Philippines presents itself before Japan and the world with the enduring strength of a nation rooted in heritage, reaching forward with hope,” said Secretary Frasco. “On behalf of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and the Filipino people, I extend heartfelt gratitude to the government of Japan, the organizers of Expo 2025, and our fellow nations for this extraordinary celebration of shared aspirations and global unity.”

In her remarks, Secretary Frasco acknowledged the deepening partnership between the Philippines and Japan, highlighting the recent State Visit of Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, who praised the Philippine Pavilion and extended an invitation to experience it during the Expo.

“We are especially honored by Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba’s recognition of the vitality and vision of our Pavilion,” said Secretary Frasco. “President Marcos has called Japan a ‘steadfast and reliable partner’—a sentiment that resonates deeply as we navigate a world in need of cooperation and shared purpose.”

In line with Expo 2025’s theme of “Designing Future Society for Our Lives,” the DOT launched two legacy initiatives aimed at empowering the next generation of tourism leaders:

Tourism Students’ Startup – A nationwide call for innovative proposals from tourism and hospitality students.

Sustainable Tourism Development Training – A skills-development program for students in state universities focused on planning, policy, and community-driven tourism.

“These programs will nurture a new generation of tourism leaders who are competitive, resilient, inclusive, and proudly Filipino,” Frasco said.

The celebration was attended by high-ranking officials and dignitaries from Japan and the Philippines, including:

  • Secretary General Kenji Yamada, Japan-Philippines Parliamentary Friendship League
  • Commissioner General Koji Haneda and Madame Ihoko Haneda, Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition
  • Secretary General Hiroyuki Ishige, Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition
  • Mayor Hideyuki Yokoyama, Osaka City
  • E. Kazuya Endo, Ambassador of Japan to the Philippines
  • E. Mylene J. Garcia-Albano, Philippine Ambassador to Japan
  • Senator Nancy Binay
  • Marga Nograles, COO of the Tourism Promotions Board – Philippines

The Philippine Pavilion at Expo 2025 continues to captivate visitors with immersive experiences that celebrate the country’s rich traditions, modern creativity, and boundless potential.
