President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. reaffirmed the government’s commitment to agricultural modernization through the adoption of smart and innovative farming technologies, emphasizing their vital role in securing the country’s food supply and improving nutritional outcomes for Filipinos.
During a visit to Metro Pacific Fresh Farms, a 3.5-hectare high-tech greenhouse facility in San Rafael, Bulacan, President Marcos underscored the importance of embracing cutting-edge agricultural systems. The facility is currently the largest of its kind in the Philippines and is capable of producing vegetables and fruits year-round, up to five times more than traditional farming methods, while utilizing less land and water.
“Dumalaw din tayo sa isang farm sa Bulacan kung nasaan ang pinakamalaking greenhouse facility sa buong bansa,” President Marcos shared through his weekly vlog, BBMVLOG #270: Mga Pagbabago. “Ang agricultural innovation na ganito ay dapat talagang inaaral at sinusuportahan ng pamahalaan.”
President Marcos highlighted that beyond food quantity, smart farming technologies contribute to food quality, offering solutions to address both hunger and malnutrition.
“Ang pinag-uusapan natin dito ay hindi lamang ang food security o ‘yung food supply, kung hindi pati na ang nutritional value na binibigay natin sa taong-bayan,” he said. “Kaya ang mga facility na ganito ay ayan ang magpo-provide sa atin ng mga fresh na mga gulay, fresh fruits, et cetera.”
The President has placed agricultural innovation at the heart of his administration’s “Bagong Pilipinas” agenda, advocating for sustainable, tech-driven approaches to transform the country’s agri-food systems and uplift farming communities.
As the nation faces challenges posed by climate change, population growth, and shifting dietary needs, the government sees modern farming technologies as a cornerstone of resilience and progress in the agriculture sector.
