In response to the declaration of a State of Emergency (SOE) in the Municipality of Pakil, Province of Laguna, due to a reported outbreak of dengue fever, the Department of Energy (DOE) has implemented a 15-day price freeze on specific household petroleum products.
Effective immediately, the prices of household Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) in cylinders weighing 11 kilograms and below, as well as kerosene products, are frozen and must not exceed their prevailing retail prices as of the date of the SOE declaration.
This regulatory measure, mandated under Republic Act No. 7581 or the Price Act, is intended to protect consumers from undue price increases during emergencies and to ensure continued access to essential energy products amid public health crises.
“The Department urges all retailers and distributors of LPG and kerosene in Pakil to strictly comply with the price freeze. We will conduct monitoring and enforcement to ensure adherence and hold violators accountable,” said DOE.
The DOE calls on the public to report any instances of overpricing or hoarding to the DOE Consumer Welfare and Promotion Office or via the agency’s official channels.
The 15-day price freeze will remain in effect unless extended or modified by further government action, depending on the developments surrounding the public health emergency.
