Maersk highlights stable inland logistics in Asia Pacific amidst regional growth

Inland logistics services across the Asia Pacific region remain largely stable, providing crucial connectivity for global trade, according to Maersk.

“While overall operations demonstrate consistency, strategic initiatives and collaborative efforts are addressing specific corridors experiencing heightened demand and urban congestion.”

Maersk noted that greater China continues to show robust inland connectivity, with road, rail, and barge services operating smoothly and reliably supporting both export and import cargo flows. This stability is a cornerstone for businesses relying on efficient supply chains within one of the world’s largest manufacturing and consumption hubs.

However, certain regions are experiencing significant increases in cargo volume, notably in southern Vietnam and eastern India. These demand spikes are testing existing infrastructure capacity, leading to increased dwell times at inland terminals. Maersk is actively engaged with local partners and authorities to mitigate these impacts and maintain cargo flow continuity.

Elsewhere in the region, cross-border trucking in Southeast Asia has seen notable improvements. Streamlined border processes and enhanced cooperation among customs authorities have contributed to more efficient and predictable transit times, boosting regional trade, said Maersk.

Furthermore, rail connectivity from China into Central Asia continues its expansion, offering manufacturers and shippers a valuable alternative for select commodities. This mode provides a beneficial balance of faster transit times compared to ocean freight and lower costs than air freight.

In response to these evolving dynamics, Maersk is working closely with regional transport partners and port authorities. The focus is on minimizing inland handover delays, enhancing transit visibility, and ensuring continuous cargo movement.

A key development is the introduction of “Maersk Arc” in Greater China, which significantly improves container tracking for inland truck movements. This advanced capability enables proactive alerting and supports more informed logistics decisions for customers.

For customers shipping through inland hubs characterized by high seasonal demand, Maersk strongly recommends early document submission and advanced forecasting. This proactive approach helps maintain flow predictability and reduces potential disruptions.

Maersk’s dedicated local inland teams are fully equipped and available to provide expert support in route planning, coordination, and exception management, ensuring seamless logistics solutions for businesses across Asia Pacific.
