PNR announces temporary suspension of Lucena-Calamba-Lucena route

The Philippine National Railways (PNR) today announced a temporary suspension of its train service on the Lucena-Calamba-Lucena route, effective June 17, 2025. This proactive measure is crucial to facilitate a major repair and comprehensive maintenance of the train operating on this vital route, ensuring the engine and all critical components are in optimal condition for passenger safety and operational efficiency.

This extensive maintenance initiative is in direct response to the President’s directive to prioritize the safety and ensure smooth travel for all commuters utilizing PNR services. The agency is committed to upholding the highest standards of public transportation.

Based on initial assessments, the necessary repairs on the train are anticipated to take approximately three to four (3-4) weeks. PNR aims to restore full service on the Lucena-Calamba-Lucena route by the first or second week of July 2025.

During this temporary service suspension, PNR will also seize the opportunity to conduct thorough repairs and ongoing maintenance works, including comprehensive attention to rails, embankments, and bridges. These efforts are a continuation of maintenance activities initiated in April, underscoring PNR’s commitment to continuous infrastructure improvement.

These strategic repairs and upgrades are also part of a larger preparatory phase for the upcoming transfer of trains from Manila to the Quezon and Bicol regions. This significant move is designed to further enhance the provision of safe, reliable, and affordable public transportation options for commuters across these key areas.

The Philippine National Railways extends its sincere gratitude to its valued commuters for their understanding and patience as these essential works are undertaken to ensure a safer and more efficient railway system for everyone.
