Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon has ordered the immediate suspension and eventual revocation of the driver’s license of a Taxihub Transport driver caught on video overcharging a passenger at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA). This swift action comes directly from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to ensure fair passenger charges.
Secretary Dizon further announced a nationwide crackdown on abusive taxi drivers operating at airports and seaports, instructing the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to spearhead these operations.
“Under the order of the President himself, I am directing LTO and LTFRB to conduct operations at our airports, specifically at NAIA, against these taxis that prey on our countrymen and tourists so we can apprehend all of them,” Secretary Dizon stated during a Monday press conference. He highlighted the egregious nature of the overcharging incident, citing a fare of P1,200 for a trip between Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 as “absurd” and “abusive.”
In addition to the driver’s license revocation, Secretary Dizon has ordered the revocation of the franchise for all 15 taxi units under Taxihub Transport, whose franchise was discovered to have expired in March.
“All those operating, all operators, you have a franchise to provide a service, but you also have a responsibility. If you violate it, there will be appropriate penalties,” Secretary Dizon emphasized, adding that appropriate charges will also be filed against the Taxihub Transport operator.
This decisive action underscores the government’s commitment to protecting passengers from exploitation and ensuring transparent and fair transportation services across the country.
