Univers, a global leader in AI and IoT technology for energy, announced a landmark strategic partnership with the Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) to establish Malaysia’s inaugural Net Zero Centre of Excellence in Kuching, Sarawak.
This pioneering Centre will serve as a dynamic hub for innovation, seamlessly integrating digital intelligence with ambitious climate goals to accelerate Sarawak’s journey toward a low-carbon, tech-enabled economy. Backed by a comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), the collaboration will strategically focus on three crucial pillars:
Advisory and Enablement: Providing bespoke digital strategies and expert advisory services for businesses and public agencies, leveraging Univers’ extensive global experience in Net Zero initiatives and advanced AI technologies.
R&D and Innovation: Establishing cutting-edge Open Labs, Testbeds, and Living Labs designed to foster robust research and facilitate the co-creation of new intellectual property specifically tailored to the unique needs and challenges of the region.
Commercial Deployment: Launching real-world Net Zero projects across diverse key sectors, ranging from energy production to hospitality, utilizing AI to unlock smarter, more efficient, and cleaner operational methodologies.
“Sustainability is a journey built on data, collaboration, and action,” stated Arun Poojari, Global Vice President, Univers. “We are bringing AI for Energy to the forefront — using intelligent systems to transition to a low-carbon economy and enable emerging regions like Sarawak to leapfrog toward a net-zero future.”
The partnership will meticulously explore how advanced digital tools can significantly improve energy efficiency, substantially reduce emissions, and drive operational excellence across Sarawak’s vital economic sectors. Additional joint efforts are anticipated to include comprehensive skills-building programs and knowledge-sharing initiatives aimed at nurturing local talent and cultivating innovative ideas.
This significant agreement also aligns perfectly with Sarawak’s broader, forward-looking ambition to cultivate a digitally driven and environmentally sustainable economy, as meticulously outlined in the Sarawak Digital Economy Blueprint 2030.
“At SDEC, we exist with a designer’s mindset to connect people to opportunities, data to decisions, and innovation to infrastructure. As a state-owned agency entrusted with more than just delivering digital projects, our mandate is to orchestrate a resilient, inclusive, and future-facing digital economy that fits the aspirations of all Sarawakians,” commented Dato Ir. Ts. Sudarnoto Osman, Chief Executive Officer of SDEC.
“Sarawak is not dipping its toes into AI. We are using it right now. This collaboration is a significant step towards shaping a future where digital solutions are embedded in the way we design and sustain our built environment,” Dato Ir. Ts. Sudarnoto Osman added.
