Transportation Sec. Dizon leads crackdown on illegal taxis at NAIA

Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon personally spearheaded an operation this Saturday morning to apprehend illegal and overcharging taxi drivers at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA). The initiative is a direct response to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to protect airport passengers from predatory pricing and unauthorized transport services.

During the surprise inspection, two “colorum” (unfranchised) taxis were immediately apprehended in the presence of Secretary Dizon. The operation, which includes the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), has already netted several other offenders, including one taxi operating under a trucking franchise.

Secretary Dizon emphasized the DOTr’s commitment to eradicating these illicit practices. “Taxi drivers and operators must stop taking advantage of our passengers traveling from the airport,” Secretary Dizon stated. He added that the continuous apprehension and imposition of heavy penalties are crucial to deterring these unscrupulous activities and ensuring passengers are no longer scammed.

The DOTr confirmed that the operation against overcharging and colorum taxis at NAIA is ongoing and will continue indefinitely to ensure fair and legal transportation services for all airport users.
