FIATA underscores urgent need for cyber resilience

As the freight forwarding industry rapidly embraces digital transformation through technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and electronic transport documents, cyber resilience has emerged as a critical priority. While these advancements promise enhanced automation, data sharing, and efficiency, they also expose the sector to escalating cyber threats, including ransomware attacks, data breaches, and supply chain disruptions. Without robust cybersecurity measures, the benefits of digitalisation could be severely undermined, and global trade flows destabilised.

In recognition of this growing concern, FIATA, the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations, proudly announces its contribution to a newly published article by the World Economic Forum (WEF) titled “Cyber resilience is now a top priority for freight forwarders.” The article comprehensively outlines the increasing cyber risks within the logistics sector and strongly advocates for collaborative, industry-wide initiatives to bolster resilience. It specifically addresses the unique challenges faced by small and medium-sized freight forwarders, emphasising the crucial role of accessible tools, training, and partnerships in strengthening their defences.

FIATA is at the forefront of these vital efforts, committed to supporting the logistics industry in navigating a secure digital transition, mitigating cyber risks, and enhancing operational resilience. This commitment is demonstrated through various initiatives, including the provision of strategic guidance and equipping its Members with best practice tools such as the comprehensive Cybersecurity Essentials Guide. Furthermore, FIATA actively promotes the adoption of secure technologies like the electronic negotiable FIATA Multimodal Transport Bill of Lading (eFBL) to safeguard data integrity and ensure secure transactions.

“The digital transformation of freight forwarding is undeniable and offers immense opportunities for our industry,” stated FIATA. “However, with these opportunities come significant cyber risks that demand our immediate and concerted attention. Our collaboration with the World Economic Forum on this important article underscores the urgency of building strong cyber resilience across the entire logistics ecosystem. FIATA is dedicated to providing our Members with the essential guidance and practical tools they need to navigate this evolving digital landscape and build secure, future-ready supply chains.”

FIATA will continue to champion efforts to empower its Members with the knowledge and resources necessary to protect their operations and contribute to a more secure and resilient global trade environment.
