The Philippines and the Republic of Lithuania have reaffirmed their shared commitment to deepening bilateral labor cooperation, paving the way for greater opportunities and stronger protections for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), in line with the directives of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
In high-level discussions held recently, Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac and Lithuanian Minister of National Defense H.E. Dovile Šakalienė led talks focused on the growing demand for Filipino professionals and skilled workers in Lithuania across key sectors, including healthcare, maritime, transportation, construction, and food services.
As part of its labor mobility framework, Lithuania is reportedly finalizing processes to facilitate the entry of more Filipino workers under an annual labor quota of 25,000. This includes 79 highly skilled Filipino workers already deployed this year.
“We are proud to serve, protect, and uplift our modern-day heroes,” said Secretary Cacdac. “Wherever Filipinos are in the world, we will reach out and ensure that their rights and welfare are safeguarded.”
Minister Šakalienė, for her part, emphasized Lithuania’s strong commitment to upholding the rights of Filipino workers under Lithuanian laws, citing their significant contributions not only to the economy but also to national security and social cohesion.
The two nations are currently reviewing a joint communiqué that will guide the implementation of this enhanced labor cooperation. Plans are also underway for high-level visits and continuous dialogue to further solidify the partnership.
As both countries work toward formalizing a labor agreement, the Filipino workforce stands to benefit from expanded employment opportunities and reinforced protections, further cementing the Philippines’ global reputation as a source of world-class talent, professionalism, and compassion.
